(San Bernardino, CA) - A game that started as a slugfest, then turned into a pitcher's duel, evolved into a blowout. Inland Empire, trailing 3-2 going into the seventh inning, scored eight times in that frame, then added two more in the eighth to beat the Lancaster JetHawks 12-3.
The JetHawks jumped out to a first inning lead. Carlos Gonzalez hit a solo home run, his tenth deep ball of the season. Lancaster then loaded the bases for Josh Ford, who singled up the middle to drive in two runs, putting the JetHawks up 3-0. Inland Empire starter Robert Rohrbaugh then settled down, retiring the next 15 hitters.
Matt Green allowed a 66ers run in each of the second and third innings then settled into a groove himself, retiring the final 11 batters he faced as he gave the JetHawks a strong six innings.
Inland Empire blew the game open against the JetHawks bullpen. They scored six times in just one-third of an inning off of Jonathan Valverde, then added four more off Hipolito Guerrero.
The JetHawks continue a ten game road trip Friday in San Bernardino against Inland Empire. AJ Shappi (3-5) goes to the hill for Lancaster against the 66ers Justin Thomas (0-0). First pitch is at 7:11 p.m. with the Burns Pharmacy JetHawks Pre-Game Show on Magic 1340 AM and www.jethawks.com starting at 7:00 p.m. The broadcast will also be simulcast on Fox Sports 610 AM.
