
Oaks lose finale

After losing two of the first three to the Nuts, the Oaks would close out the 2005 season on Labor Day on Monday afternoon. The Oaks looked for a win, which would give them a split in the four game series against Modesto. The Oaks would send out right-hander Jeremy Flanagan vs. righty Larry Robles for the Nuts in the final game of the season.
The Oaks struck first scoring two in the first on RBI singles by John Paul Davis and Sandy Aracena and lead 2-0. Modest struck 1-2-3 though over the next three innings. The put up a solo run in the second on a triple by Matt Wilson, who was the Sally League MVP, and it was a 2-1 game. Modesto added two in the third on RBI singles from Matt Miller and Eric Dean and took their first lead at 3-2. The Nuts would score three in the fourth one on a Joe Gaetti RBI single who was just getting started and Modesto lead 6-2.
The Oaks scored a run in the bottom of that inning making it 6-3, but Modesto added two more in the top of the sixth when Joe Gaetti his 20th of the season to make it an 8-3 game. Visalia added on in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-4, but Modesto would get more in the eighth. It was that man again Joe Gaetti who hit his second homerun of the day this time a three run bomb that was hit a long way, his 21st of the year and it was 11-4 Modesto. Gaetti finished the day four for five with a single, double, two homeruns, six RBI, and three runs scored. Modesto went on to win the game by that final of 11-4 as the Oaks lose the final game of the 2005 season.
Modesto now heads to the playoff as the regular season come to an end for them. The Oaks season come to end as Visalia finishes the second half with a 29-41 and finish the 2005 season with an overall record of 55-85.
