
Garthwaite named organization's Player of the Month

(Lancaster, CA) - The Lancaster JetHawks and Arizona Diamondbacks have announced that Jay Garthwaite has been named the Diamondbacks Player of the Month for August. The Lancaster slugger becomes the fifth JetHawks player to receive this honor during the 2005 season.
Garthwaite, 24, owned a .328 average (39-for-119) in August, including 11 doubles, a triple, 8 home runs and 36 RBI for the JetHawks. His home run total was tied for tops among D'Back farmhands and third most in the California League, while his 36 RBI paced the entire organization and was tied for the top in the league. His month also included a .639 slugging percentage and a .336 on-base percentage.
Overall, the Diamondbacks 14th-round selection in the 2002 draft has reached a new career-high with 101 RBI this season and has reached the 20 home run mark in a season for the second time in his career this year.
Other JetHawks that have won the Player/Pitcher of the Month Award this season are pitchers Jon Catellanos and Matt Chico, along with position players Miguel Montero and Stephen Drew.
Garthwaite will help lead the JetHawks into the post season when Lancaster hosts the High Desert Mavericks in the opening game of the best-of-three mini series at Clear Channel Stadium on Wednesday night at 7:00 P.M.
