New York Red Bulls II News Release
FOXBOROUGH, MA - New York Red Bulls II (10-6-4, 36 pts.) start a stretch of three matches in seven days with a matchup against New England Revolution II (10-5-5 39 pts.) at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET and coverage is available on MLSNEXTPro.com.
As was the story last weekend against Orlando, today's match in New England is going to be a crucial one for the Eastern Conference standings going forward. The two sides are just three points apart with the same number of matches played, making every point from this battle even more important as the regular season comes to a close.
New York has come out on top in both matches between these clubs and has outscored New England 5-1 in that span. The first contest was a 1-0 victory in Massachusetts thanks to an Oladayo Thomas goal and a fantastic performance from the back line and goalkeeper A.J. Marcucci. In the second match, goals were more abundant, as Red Bulls II came out on top 4-1 at MSU Soccer Park.
Coming into today's match, New York is riding high on a two-match win streak, while New England suffered a loss in a shootout in their most recent match against Chicago Fire FC II. New York has already gotten the best of Revs II on the road, however New England has yet to lose at home since that match between these two back in April.
The main story for New York in the attacking end has been midfielder Ibrahim Kasule. The Ugandan, who just won MLS NEXT Pro Player of the Month for July, has been on an incredible run of form over the past eleven matches. With ten goals and four assists over that time frame, the 19-year-old will most certainly be one of the main targets for Red Bulls II in the final third for today's match.
New England forward, and former Red Bulls II player, Jordan Adebayo-Smith will be a player to watch for the New York back line, as he leads his team with eight goals on the season. He will face trouble against a Red Bulls II defense that has allowed the third least goals in the entire league with 23.
