NYCFC Levels Score against Colorado Rapids

New York City Football Club were back in the Bronx on Sunday to welcome Colorado Rapids to Yankee Stadium. A tight game saw the Rapids take a second-half lead through Michael Barrios in the 68th minute. The hosts were behind for just four minutes thanks to a brilliant finish by Talles Magno. In the end both teams would take home a point with the game finishing 1-1.

New York City Football Club returned from the international break aiming for some home comforts against the Colorado Rapids.

Interim Head Coach Nick Cushing made three changes to the side that beat Minnesota United last time out, with Tayvon Gray and Malte Amundsen coming in for Keaton Parks and Chris Gloster.

The Boys in Blue's first chance came in the 8th minute after a delightful dummy by Talles Magno freed him down the left.

After several slinky stepovers the Brazilian poked a cross to the near post where Maxi Moralez headed it into the arms of William Yarborough.

The teenager thought he had earned his side a penalty after rounding Yarborough minutes later, but the referee did not deem it a foul.

A tight game saw the hosts control possession without being able to carve out clear chances against a defensively resolute Colorado side.

In the 34th minute a rapid breakaway changed that. Acevedo found Talles Magno, who in turn played it to Taty Castellanos on the edge of the box.

His driving run in the left side of the box allowed him to get a shot away that thundered against the crossbar and away to safety.

The second half brought no changes for the hosts, but Colorado did introduce a former NYCFC man in Jonathan Lewis - the winger entering in place of Jack Price.

The Boys in Blue continued to push for an opener and they came close in the 64th minute when a diving header by Alfredo Morales hit the side netting from a corner.

In the 68th minute, the Rapids took a surprise lead after a quick breakaway in midfield saw Mark Anthony-Kaye feed Michael Barrios to drive at goal and score.

Cushing turned to his bench for the first time in the 71st minute and introduced Keaton Parks in place of Acevedo.

Four minutes later the Boys in Blue were back in the game and it came via Talles Magno. A delightful cross from Maxi Moralez found him and he produced an acrobatic volleyed finish.

NYCFC were now on the hunt for a winner and in the 79th minute Maxi Moralez clipped a delightful pass in behind - Castellanos did his best to stretch and make contact but he couldn't keep it on frame.

In the 80th minute, Santiago Rodríguez departed the field to be replaced by Thiago Andrade in a bid to inject fresh legs into proceedings.

As the clock ticked toward the 90th minute the Boys in Blue probed the Rapids' defence. A slick move in the 86th minute allowed Keaton Parks a shot at the top of the box, but it was well held by Yarborough.

Minutes later Moralez dusted the game with some magic by first escaping pressure in the left channel before curling an effort toward the back post that almost beat Yarborough.

Ultimately the game would end all square and force both teams to leave with a point apiece.
