Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - The Nuts threatened in the ninth, but the Rawhide pitching staff routinely came up with the big pitch to send the Nuts to a 4-2 loss on Monday night at John Thurman Field.
Jordan Ribera and David Kandilas reached to begin the ninth for the Nuts (2-10) against Rawhide (8-4) closer Jimmie Sherfy (S, 4). With the tying runs in scoring position, Sherfy struck out the next three batters to end the game and beat the Nuts.
Brandon Sinnery (W, 2-0) shutout the Nuts over seven innings of work. The righty struck out five while allowing just four hits.
Ryan Gibbard (L, 0-3) battled control issues to turn in a solid start for the Nuts. In five innings he walked five but struck out five while giving up just one run.
Rudy Flores clubbed a two-run shot in the eighth inning to give the Rawhide a four-run lead which turned out to be the decisive blow. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Nuts plated two. Rosell Herrera smacked a RBI single before Will Swanner whacked a RBI triple. The Nuts however, could not come up with the big hit in the ninth as they went 1-for13 with runners in scoring position.
On Tuesday night the Nuts take on the Rawhide in the second game of a three-game series. The Rockies are sending righty Jhoulys Chacin to make the first of two rehab starts with the Modesto Nuts. The Rawhide will have lefty Spencer Arroyo throwing. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
