SAN JOSE - Inland Empire's Kyle McGowin tossed seven shutout innings and the 66ers scored six runs over the sixth and seventh frames to post a 6-0 victory over the San Jose Giants on Monday evening at Municipal Stadium. The Giants were held to four hits in the series-opening defeat - their fourth consecutive loss.

McGowin (1-0), who lowered his ERA to 1.06 through his first three starts this season, limited San Jose to only three singles during his dominant stint on the mound. The right-hander walked one and struck out five.

Chris Stratton (1-2) suffered the loss for the Giants despite taking a shutout into the sixth inning. Stratton finished his night with two runs allowed (both earned) on three hits over six innings of work. He walked one and struck out five. Stratton retired 15 out of the first 16 batters he faced with Alex Allbritton's single in the top of the third the only 66ers baserunner over the first five innings.

The game was scoreless until the top of the sixth when Inland Empire broke through against Stratton. After a leadoff walk to Allbritton, Brennan Gowens grounded into a fielder's choice for the first out of the inning. Sherman Johnson followed with a single to put runners on the corners and then Jose Rondon lined a single into right center plating Gowens with the first run of the night. Johnson advanced to third on Rondon's hit and then scored when the next batter, Cal Towey, grounded out to first.

The 66ers then blew the game open with a four-run top of the seventh against Giants reliever Stephen Johnson. With two outs and the bases empty, Rolando Gomez singled. After back-to-back walks to Allbritton and Gowens loaded the bases, Sherman Johnson belted the 10th pitch of his at-bat to deep right center field for a bases-clearing triple and a 5-0 lead. Rondon followed with an RBI single off of Tyler Mizenko to make it 6-0.

Meanwhile, San Jose's best opportunities to score against McGowin came in the first and third innings. In the bottom of the first, Jesus Galindo reached on an error to leadoff before Trevor Brown walked to put runners on first and second. However, Mitch Delfino then grounded into a double play and Mac Williamson flied out to right to end the threat.

In the third, Rando Moreno singled with one out and stole second, but consecutive groundouts from the next two hitters, Galindo and Brown, kept the Giants off the scoreboard.

San Jose's only other baserunners on Monday were two-out singles from Chris Lofton and Delfino in the fifth and sixth innings respectively and a Galindo two-out double in the bottom of the eighth.
