Modesto Nuts News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA. - Evan White drove in three runs as part of a two-hit game but that was not enough to end the Modesto Nuts' losing streak as they fell 11-5 against the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Saturday night at LoanMart Field.
Gavin Lux started the Quakes (59-41; 24-6) offensive barrage in the first with a lead off solo home runs against Nuts (39-61; 9-21) starter Darren McCaughan (L, 4-8). In the second inning, after McCaughan was able to record the first two outs, the Quakes were able to plate four runs to open up their lead. In the fourth, Jared Walker went deep with a solo shot.
The Nuts started a comeback attempt against Leo Crawford (W, 3-0) in the fifth. White doubled home two runs in the inning and later scored on Beau Branton's RBI single. Branton, in his California League debut, went 3-for-5.
Crawford worked five innings and allowed four runs on ten hits with six strikeouts.
The Quakes turned the game into a blowout with a five-run sixth inning. McCaughan started the inning and hit two batters with one walk before he was pulled with the bases loaded. Danny Garcia surrendered all three inherited runners before allowing a pair of run-scoring singles.
McCaughan worked five innings and allowed nine runs, seven earned, on five hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
