
Gold's Gem Leads 'Hawks over 'Hide

VISALIA, Calif. - Brandon Gold dominated for seven innings to lead the JetHawks to a 6-1 win over the Visalia Rawhidein the series-opener on Saturday night at Recreation Park.
Gold (7-6) allowed one run on five hits and tied season-highs with seven strikeouts and seven innings pitched. He's now allowed only two runs on 12 hits over 21 innings in three starts against Visalia this season.
Lancaster's lineup faced the Cal League's ERA leader in Emilio Vargas (7-5) and broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning on a Wes Rogers two-run home run. It was Rogers' first home run since joining the JetHawks this season.
The Rawhide (12-18, 49-51) got on the board on a Jazz Chisholm homer in the sixth, but the JetHawks (17-13, 50-50) broke the game open with four runs in the seventh inning. Colton Welker and Tyler Nevin each recorded RBI-hits. The two other runs scored on a wild pitch and an error.
Salvador Justo and Juan Pena each threw scoreless innings of relief to wrap up the win for Gold.
Brian Serven tied the club's season-high with two doubles.
The series continues on Sunday in Visalia. Ty Culbreth (5-3) is scheduled to start opposite Connor Grey (7-6). First pitch is 6 p.m.
