Modesto Nuts News Release

MODESTO, CA. - A three-error inning and a gem sent the Modesto Nuts to an 8-2 loss against the San Jose Giants on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.

Steven Moyers (L, 1-2) was throwing well for the Nuts (47-61; 17-21) until his defense betrayed him in the fourth. Manuel Geraldo reached on an E5 to start the inning before stealing second and going to third base on an E3. Heliot Ramos doubled home a run. Two more RBI singles finished off the four-run fourth inning. All four runs were unearned.

Moyers worked six innings allowing six runs but only two were earned while he struck out six batters with no walks.

Jose Marte (W, 3-4) posted his best start of the season for the Giants (50-57; 20-18) allowing only one hit. Marte struck out eight and walked only one over six innings of work.

Jake Scheiner was the only offensive threat in the game. He doubled in the second, drove in a run with a groundout and then tripled home a run in the ninth.

The Nuts have an off day on Monday before a three-game set with the Ports starts in Stockton on Tuesday. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
