Inland Empire Opens Series at Lake Elsinore with Ten-Inning Loss

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino fought back and took three separate leads at Lake Elsinore on Friday but in the end could not hold the Storm off in the tenth inning in an 8-7 loss. 19-year-old Storm shortstop Xavier Edwards delivered the knock-out blow with an RBI walk-off single in the tenth, his third hit of the night.

The Storm (53-51, 18-18) took a 2-0 lead in the in the first when Gabriel Arias tagged an opposite field homer to right, the two-run shot was his tenth of the year. Inland Empire (39-66, 13-23) starter Kyle Bradish pitched just one inning. The Sixers got a run in the third and then took a 3-2 lead in the fifth on RBI singles from Gareth Morgan and Mike Stefanic. Edwards tied the game in the fifth with his first RBI single of the contest. After the Storm led 4-3 heading into the seventh the 66ers got an RBI double from Zane Gurwitz to tie the game 4-4. Gleyvin Pineda then drilled a two-run double for a 6-4 lead. The Storm tied the game in the bottom of the frame however on RBI singles from Olivier Basabe and Jack Suwinski. The game remained tied in until the tenth when Pineda again came through for Inland Empire with a RBI single to center and a 7-6 advantage. The Storm however, bounced back in the bottom of the frame against IE reliever Luke Lind (0-1) as pinch runner Eguy Rosario scored on a fielder's choice at the plate to tie the game and two batters later Edwards' single scored Jeisson Rosario from second despite a tremendous throw from center by Sixers' OF Orlando Martinez. Jordan Guerrero (1-3) earned the win on the mound for the Storm.
