
Nuts Swept with 10-2 Loss to Giants

Modesto, CA. - In front of 5,127, the largest crowd of the year, the Nuts fell 10-2 against the Giants on Thursday night at John Thurman Field.
Two big innings doomed the Nuts (4-10, 27-57), while Giants (8-6, 42-42) starter, Pat Young (W, 6-3) dominated six innings.
In the second inning, the Giants sent nine men to the plate and scored five runs against Nuts starter Matt Flemer (L, 7-6). With one out, the Giants recorded five straight hits against Flemer. Ben Turner ripped a RBI single. Elliott Blair smoked a two-run double. Ydwin Villegas knocked a RBI single. With two outs in the inning, Shawn Payne capped the frame with a RBI single.
In the fourth, the Giants plated four more runs against Flemer who finished after surrendering eleven hits and nine runs; both season highs.
Pat Young allowed a single to Derek Jones in the third before Kyle Von Tunglen drove him in with a double. Young proceeded to retire the next eight batters consecutively before Jordan Ribera legged out an infield, RBI single. Young finished after six innings, allowing three hits while striking out six and walking one.
The Nuts will open a seven-game road trip with the first of a four-game series at Bakersfield on Friday night. Lefty Ryan Carpenter will throw for the Nuts. Righty Ismael Guillon will toss for the Blaze. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:40 p.m.
