Stockton, CA. - Another quiet night by the bats contributed to the Nuts 6-0 loss against the Ports on Thursday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
It is the third shutout suffered by the Nuts (11-36; 34-83) in their last four road games and their 15th consecutive road loss.
Josh Bowman (W, 5-7) started for the Ports (32-15; 69-48) and dominated over seven shutout innings allowing just three hits while striking out four and walking none.
Devin Burke's (L, 5-11) start for the Nuts was spoiled by the long ball. In the first inning, Matt Olson smashed a three-run homer to give the Ports the early lead. After Burke navigated through trouble in the fifth, he gave up a first-pitch long ball in the sixth to Josh Brugman. Burke worked 5.2 innings, allowing four runs overall on five hits while walking three and striking out three.
The Nuts battle the Ports in the second game of a four-game series on Friday night. Jayson Aquino will throw for the Nuts. Chris Lamb will toss for the Ports. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:05 p.m.
