Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - Five late runs blew open a close game with the Nuts falling 8-2 against the Giants on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.
Blake Miller sparked the Giants (7-6; 41-42) four-run ninth inning with a RBI single, his third run batted in of the night and fifth of the series. Brian Ragira added a sac fly in the ninth to go along with his fourth inning home run. In the eighth and ninth innings, the Giants scored five runs to bust a 3-2 game wide open.
Ben Alsup (L, 0-9) turned in the longest start by any Nuts' (4-9; 27-56) starter this year by working 7.1 innings but it was not enough. The righty allowed three earned runs, struck out three and walked none.
Joe Biagini (W, 5-5) was excellent for the Giants. He gave up a RBI ground out to Kyle Von Tunglen in the fifth. In the sixth, Jordan Ribera ripped a RBI single. That was all the Nuts could muster with Biagini striking out five, walking one and allowing five hits.
The finale of the three-game set is on Thursday night with Matt Flemer on the mound for the Nuts and Pat Young throwing for the Giants. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
