
Masterful Devenski Leads 'Hawks to 10-0 Rout

STOCKTON, Calif. - Chris Devenski took matters into his own hands and put together his best start with the JetHawks in a 10-0 win over the Stockton Ports on Wednesday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
Devenski (5-5) struck out eight without issuing a walk over seven scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed just two hits, a bunt single in the third and a bloop single in the fourth, en route to picking up his fifth win. Devenski started the season 1-5 but has now won four consecutive decisions. He lowered his ERA over 40 points to 4.11.
The JetHawks (49-34) were had entered the night having lost eight of their last 10 games. The team's ERA during that stretch was 6.75. The shutout is the fifth of the year for Lancaster's pitching staff.
Ports (46-37) starter Yeiper Castillo (0-2) walked three batters in the first inning before Jobduan Morales hit a two-run double to left field to put the JetHawks ahead early.
Jack Mayfield doubled to start the third inning and Jordan Scott bunted for a base hit to put runners at first and third with no outs. Mayfield scored on a wild pitch that allowed Scott to motor all the way to third base. Conrad Gregor followed with a scoring fly ball to put the JetHawks up 4-0.
Danry Vasquez walked with two outs in the fourth inning and moved to second on a wild pitch before Mayfield drove him home with a single.
Lancaster's biggest inning came in the fifth. Scott, who was playing in his first game since returning from Double-A, started the inning with a double against reliever Jonathan Joseph. He stole third base and scored on a wild pitch.
Joseph later walked three consecutive batters to load the bases. Dan Gulbransen followed with a scoring fly ball to bring Gregor to the plate and Vasquez walked with the bases loaded to put Lancaster ahead 8-0.
Austin Elkins hit a home run against Andres Avila in the seventh inning, his first with the JetHawks. The two-run shot gave Lancaster the 10-0 lead.
Patrick Christensen tossed two scoreless innings of relief to finish the shutout for Devenski and the JetHawks.
Gregor grounded to first base to lead off the ninth inning and finished the game 0-for-3 with a walk, sacrifice fly and an RBI. His hitting streak ended at 18 games, the longest streak in the California League this season.
The two clubs play the rubber of the three-game series on Thursday night at Banner Island Ballpark. Josh Hader will start against Seth Streich. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
