Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA - A ninth-inning run kept the Modesto Nuts from being shutout as they lost 9-1 against the Fresno Grizzlies at John Thurman Field on Tuesday night.
Victor Labrada walked to lead off the ninth inning. He went first to third on a Noelvi Marte single before scoring on a Justin Lavey RBI fielder's choice. That was all the Nuts (19-12) would get as they suffered their third straight loss.
Breiling Eusebio (W, 3-0) started the game for the Grizzlies (20-11). The lefty allowed an infield single in the first inning and would not allow another hit until the fifth inning when Dariel Gomez doubled with two outs. Overall, Eusebio struck out seven over six shutout innings.
Josias De Los Santos (L, 2-3) retired the first five batters he faced before the walks started. The righty walked two in the second but stranded them both with a strikeout. In the third, the Grizzlies took the lead when Ezequiel Tovar tripled home a run. Grant Lavigne followed up with a RBI double. Lavigne finished with three RBI in the game. Drew Romo capped the inning with a RBI single as part of a four-hit day.
De Los Santos worked 4.1 innings allowing four runs on five hits and seven walks.
An error in the seventh helped open the door for the Grizzles who scored four runs in the frame capped by Grant Lavigne's two-run triple.
Game two of the six-game series between the Nuts and Grizzlies is on Wednesday at John Thurman Field. First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
