Lubbock Renegades News Release

LUBBOCK, TX: February 27, 2007 - The inaugural Lubbock Renegades of the arenafootball2 league announced quarterback Justin Midgett has been assigned to the club for the 2007 season by the af2.

Midgett, a native of Punta Gorda, Florida, comes to the Hub City after spending last season as a rookie with the af2's Florida Firecats. He appeared in four games under center and was 6 for 10 passing for 28 yards and 2 touchdowns with a 104 passing rating. The 6'4" 215-pound quarterback is a well known passer in the Sunshine State looking to make a name for himself in the Lone Star State. Coming out of Charlotte High School, Midgett was the top rated quarterback in Florida and several scouting services rated him among the top 10 quarterbacks in the nation, including Rivals.com, which rated him #8 in the country. The 22 year-old earned All-State honors and was a Blue Chip All-American as a senior in 2002. He set various passing records in high school and threw for 2,489 yards as a senior with 21 touchdowns, leading to him joining the same recruiting class at the University of Florida that just claimed the NCAA national title. Midgett was to eventually battle Chris Leak for the starting QB role at Florida, but academic and off the field problems quickly led to Midgett getting in former Gator Head Coach Ron Zook's doghouse. Suspensions finally forced Midgett to decide to leave Florida in the fall of 2004, and he went to Division I-AA Eastern Illinois, but was ruled academically ineligible. Midgett, who wants to work as a church youth minister after his pro football career, decided to leave the college game and he went on to attend several Arena Football League tryouts (Las Vegas, Tampa Bay) before eventually landing with the Estero, Florida based Firecats.

Additional information, including photo requests, on Midgett may be requested by contacting Chris Due with the Lubbock Renegades at 806-744-5858 or chris@lubbockrenegades.com. Midgett is currently in Lubbock and is available for any interview requests. Renegades Head Coach Rodney Blackshear is also available for any comments, which can also be arranged by contacting Due.

The Renegades kick off their inaugural campaign April 6th on the road in Amarillo. Their home opener is scheduled for a 3 PM kickoff on Sunday, April 15th at City Bank Coliseum against the Arkansas Twisters. Individual ticket and corporate sponsorship information is available by contacting the Renegades office at (806) 744-5858. Additional Renegades info can be found online via their official site at www.lubbockrenegades.com.
