Northern Arizona Wranglers Sign Offensive Lineman Travis Alvarez

Alvarez, 6'7", 330 lbs., will be playing his first season as a professional, in the Indoor Football League, with the Wranglers. Alvarez spent his collegiate career at SUNY Cortland University, which is located in Cortland, N.Y. Alvarez had an outstanding career for the Red Dragons, as he was a staple on the offensive line for an offense that averaged 425 yards per game. Alvarez blocked 11 total kicks (field goals / extra points) during his time at SUNY Cortland. With five of these blocks coming as a freshman, Alvarez earned a special teams spot on the Second Team All-American squad.

Alvarez is a force on both the offensive line and special teams. Most recently in 2021, Alvarez earned a selection for the All-Empire 8 Athletic Conference First Team, as an offensive tackle. Alvarez also earned a spot on the All-Empire 8 Second Team, as an offensive lineman, in 2019. Alvarez was named to the D3Football.com All-East Team as a special teams player during two out of his four collegiate seasons. Alvarez also earned a spot on the D3Football.com National Team of the Week on two occasions. Alvarez graduated from SUNY Cortland University with a bachelor's degree in coaching, and a minor in sports studies.

Alvarez is originally from Keyport, N.J., where he played football at Keyport High School. Alvarez was encouraged to play football by his parents, and has loved the sport from an early age. Alvarez stated, "I have been playing football my whole life. I fell in love with the game, and I realized I was pretty good at it." Alvarez loves the grind, and explained by stating, "I keep working to get better every day, to be the best that I can be at the game, and see where football can take me."

When addressing Wranglers Nation, Alvarez stated that he's "excited for the opportunity to play football again." Alvarez expanded by saying, "I can't wait to get the fans excited to watch us play." Alvarez will be ready to feel the energy of the fans in 2023, as he has one goal for the upcoming season. Alvarez stated that he is aiming to "go back to back," in reference to the Wranglers 2022 National Championship victory.
