North Shore victorious over Quebec

July 2, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
North Shore Spirit News Release

Marcos Agramonte scored the lone run of this game as the Spirit emerged with a 1-0 victory over Quebec in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

This one was a pitcher's duel for most of the game, as both teams were held scoreless through five innings of play.

North Shore struck first to break the tie. Marcos Agramonte singled to left with one out and moved into scoring position with his fourth steal of the game. Rob Fischer picked up an RBI on an infield single, thanks to heads up base running from Agramonte, who scored from second on the play.

Morse shut out the Capitales to earn his fourth victory of the season with the complete-game effort.

He pitched his way out of a major jam in the fifth inning. Quebec had runners on second and third with just one out, but Morse got a big strikeout on Dany Scalabrini and a groundout from Geoffrey Tomlinson to escape unscathed.

Spirit right fielder Brian Macchi saved a run in the sixth inning, slamming into the wall as he reeled in a deep drive off the bat of Olivier Lepine.

Macchi came through with another run-saving play in the seventh, throwing out pinch-runner Simon Legare at the plate.

The Spirit offense failed to capitalize on some early scoring opportunities. Marcos Agramonte had three steals in the first three innings, but the Spirit offense couldn't bring him home. North Shore batters also hurt themselves as they hit into three double plays.
