North Carolina Courage Travel to Houston Dash for First Road Game of 2019

Cary, N.C. - The North Carolina Courage (1W-0L-1D) will travel for their first road test of the season against the Houston Dash (1W-0L-1D) on Sunday, May 28 at 6:00 p.m. ET. Both teams sit atop the NWSL standings with four points heading into Week 3 of the season.

After kicking off the NWSL season with a 1-1 draw against the Chicago Red Stars, the North Carolina Courage bounced back with a huge 5-0 win against the Orlando Pride on Wednesday, April 17. The Courage are tied with the Portland Thorns with most goals scored this season and have the biggest goal differential in the league at five goals.

Lynn Williams scored the only first-half goal for the Courage against the Orlando Pride. Goals went flying in the second half. Crystal Dunn led the charge with two goals. Jessica McDonald added a goal with an assist from Williams. Swedish international, Julia Spetsmark, added the fifth and final goal of the game in the 88th minute in a match that was her NC Courage debut.

Dunn is tied with the Portland Thorns forward, Christine Sinclair, for most goals scored this season. Both have three goals in two games.

The Houston Dash defeated Sky Blue FC on Saturday, March 20, 1-0. Despite Sky Blue's goalkeeper, Kailen Sheridan's 10 saves in the match, Houston found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to clinch three points. Sofia Huerta's shot hit off a Sky Blue player on its path to the goal.

The last meeting between the NC Courage and the Houston Dash was on September 8, 2018. The NC Courage had a busy night outscoring the Dash, 5-0. Goals in the match were scored by McDonald, Dunn, Kristen Hamilton, and Lynn Williams who had two.

Fact to Know: The NC Courage and Houston Dash match up brings along with it a Mewis matchup. Sam Mewis' sister Kristie has recently returned to the field for the Dash after recovering from an ACL injury.

Players to Watch:

North Carolina Courage- #19 Crystal Dunn

Dunn has started where she left off last season, scoring three goals in just two games. She scored the equalizing goal in the season opener against the Chicago Red Stars. She then scored two goals against Orlando, both of which came off of corner kicks.

Houston Dash- #14 Nichelle Prince

The 2017 draft pick has already hit the ground running in 2019 scoring one of the Houston Dash's two goals. She has played 164 minutes in the first two games and recorded five shots. Three of her shots have been on goal.
