Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash registered their second walk-off win this week in a 3-2 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
The Hot Rods got on the board first in game five, thanks to a solo home run by Heriberto Hernandez.
The Dash were unable to respond in the bottom half of the frame, and from there the game turned into a pitcher's duel. For Winston-Salem, the left-hander Tommy Sommer put up zeroes through the fourth inning. Righty Logan Workman held serve for the Hot Rods, as he preserved their 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth inning. In that frame, Duke Ellis doubled as the leadoff man. He was pushed to third base on a fielder's choice groundout, then Bryan Ramos lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, which allowed Ellis to cross home plate with the tying run.
Neither Sommer nor Workman allowed a run in the fifth, which wound up being the final inning for Logan Workman. For Sommer, he recorded two quick outs in the sixth inning before being relieved by Karan Patel. Sommer tossed 5.2 innings of one-run baseball, while picking up six strikeouts and walking no Hot Rod hitters.
In the bottom of the sixth for the Dash, Colson Montgomery broke the 1-1 deadlock with a solo blast over the right field wall. That was his fifth home run since joining the Dash.
Patel worked a scoreless seventh inning, then Cooper Bradford entered for the top of the eighth. He struck out Alika Williams on three pitches to begin his night, but then allowed a solo home run to Mason Auer to tie the game at 2-2.
Bradford did bounce back to hold the game at 2-2 in the top of the ninth, giving the Dash a chance to go home winners in the bottom of the ninth. Colson Montgomery singled to open the frame, then Bryan Ramos singled as well to push Montgomery to second. Later in the inning, Tyler Osik also singled, and the Dash had the bases loaded with one out for Ben Norman. He took two pitches out of the zone, then lifted the next one into deep center field. Montgomery tagged up from third base, and scored the game-winning run to give the Dash a 3-2 victory. Bradford got the official win, with Evan Reifert taking the loss on his record.
