Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
Wilmington, DE - The Cyclones dropped their second straight to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, falling on Saturday night by the score of 4-2. LHP Nathan Lavender suffered the loss after allowing four runs, earned, on five hits with one walk and a strikeout over 1.1 innings of relief.
Brooklyn jumped in front 1-0 in the top of the second when Jose Peroza connected on a solo shot that went an estimated 404 feet for his sixth home run of the season. The lead would double in the top of the sixth when Alex Ramirez had a two-out RBI single to plate Matt Rudick to give Brooklyn a 2-0 lead.
Christian Scott made the start for Brooklyn in his Cyclones debut. The righthander tossed 4.0 shutout innings, scattering three hits while striking out a pair. Lavender took over in the fifth with a scoreless frame, but ran into trouble in the sixth.
Jose Sanchez and Robert Hassell III started the frame with back-to-back singles before a wild pitch from the Brooklyn southpaw moved both runners up a base. Drew Millas when worked a walk, with ball four going for another wild pitch that allowed Sanchez to score and put runners on the corners with nobody out. Yasel Antuna then added an RBI single that knotted the game, and again put runners on the corners. Antuna then stole second base, but the throw from Matt O'Neill went wide allowing Mililas to score the go-ahead run. Drew Mendoza capped the scoring with an RBI single of his own to make it 4-2 in favor of Wilmington after six.
That would be how it would end, as Brooklyn's offense managed just one base runner over the final three innings.
The Cyclones will look to salvage a series split on Sunday afternoon when they close out the six-game set with RHP Luis Moreno on the mound. First pitch is set for 1:05 PM.
