Normal CornBelters Continue to Add to Roster

Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, have signed outfielder Matt Wright and right-handed pitcher Luis Noel. Wright led the Frontier League in triples a year ago, and Noel spent six seasons within the Baltimore Orioles organization. The CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2013 season at The Corn Crib on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. versus the Windy City ThunderBolts ("CEFCU Opening Night").

Wright, a 23-year-old left-handed hitter, attended Bethune-Cookman College (Daytona Beach, FL). In 2012, he spent his first professional season with the London Rippers and Road Warriors (Frontier League - Independent). In 71 games played, he hit .224 with 14 doubles, nine triples, 30 runs scored and 30 RBI.

"Matt is a talented player that, despite playing hurt most of the year, led the league in triples," said Player Personnel Director Nick Belmonte. "He is an exciting player that we are expecting to be a big contributor with his bat and his glove."

Noel spent the 2006-2011 seasons within the Orioles organization, starting ten games for the Frederick Keys (Carolina League - High A) in 2010. A native of Thiotte, Haiti, the 25-year-old was 8-3 with a 3.81 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 18 games started for the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (North American League - Independent) last season.

"Luis is an experienced and durable pitcher," said Field Manager Brooks Carey. "He's had good seasons everywhere he's been."
