Normal CornBelters News Release
Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, recently signed infielder Devin Thaut. In the league's inaugural season (2012), he led the independent Freedom Pro Baseball League in batting average and home runs. The CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2013 season at The Corn Crib on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. versus the Windy City ThunderBolts ("CEFCU Opening Night").
"The reports we've gotten say Devin can flat out hit," said CornBelters Field Manager, Brooks Carey. "He's now going to get an opportunity to prove that to us, along with showing off his other skills, in spring training. We're looking forward to having him there."
Thaut hit .413 with 76 hits, 16 doubles, 14 home runs and 52 RBI in 50 games with the Montezuma Federals last season. He was also named the league's "Defensive Player of the Year" at third base. Prior to last season, he played collegiately at Southern Polytechnic State University (Marietta, GA) and Paradise Valley Community College (Phoenix, AZ).
