Brandon Snyder had three hits and three RBI and the Tides used a five-run inning to cruise to a 12-3 win over Durham Saturday night at Harbor Park.

Durham starter Jeff Bennett (0-1) retired the first eight Norfolk batters and was ahead on #9 hitter Steve Lerud 0-2 before running into trouble in the third frame. Bennett issued four straight balls to put Lerud on first with a walk, and the Tides then rattled off six consecutive two-out singles to plate five runs and jump out to a 5-0 lead.

Snyder had an RBI single in the decisive third frame, then added a two-run double in the seventh inning that extended Norfolk's lead to 8-3. The 23-year-old now has five RBI over his last two contests.

The Tides added four runs on four hits in the eighth inning with the big hit of the frame a two-run double off the bat of Robert Andino. Andino finished with three RBI in his first game with Norfolk after he was outrighted from Baltimore on Wednesday.

Josh Bell connected for three hits in the contest while Joey Gathright added two hits and two runs scored.

Norfolk starter Alfredo Simon needed 71 pitches to navigate through three scoreless innings before giving way to Chris George (1-0), who earned the win after yielding two earned runs in 3.2 innings of work.

The Tides and Bulls wrap up their season-opening four-game set on Sunday, with first pitch from Harbor Park slated for 1:15. Brandon Erbe will make his Triple-A debut for Norfolk against Bulls right-hander Virgil Vasquez.
