New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
ERIE, Pa. - Through seven games in the month of June, the Fisher Cats (30-33) have relied heavily on the home run ball for their offense. Saturday night was no different as they smacked three bombs en route to a 6-2 victory over the Erie SeaWolves (32-27).
Adam Loewen delivered the opening salvo for the Fisher Cats with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. A single by Kevin Nolan and a walk to Brad Glenn brought up Loewen, who launched his seventh homer to right-center to stake his team to a 3-0 lead.
An inning later it was Ryan Schimpf's turn. After Kevin Pillar reached on a single, Schimpf's 13th homer just cleared the right field wall to push the cushion to 5-0.
That was more than enough for left-hander Sean Nolin, who turned in another solid outing. He retired Erie in order in each of the first four innings, striking out the side on nine pitches in the second. He allowed a pair of runs (one earned) in the fifth before racking up two more strikeouts in a perfect sixth.
Nolin (W; 3-1) left after six allowing just one earned run on three hits. He struck out a season-high nine without issuing a walk. On the season, he has 35 strikeouts in 31.1 innings of work.
Brad Glenn added one more run on a solo home run for the Fisher Cats in the top of the ninth inning. It was Glenn's third home run of the road trip, and his second in as many nights in Erie.
The home runs have been a significant part of the Fisher Cats offense in June. They have smacked nine long balls in 7 games, scoring 14 of their 16 runs in the month courtesy of home runs.
The Fisher Cats will now go for the sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. Marcus Stroman (1-1, 6.00) takes the hill against Erie's Kyle Lobstein (5-3, 3.19). Radio coverage begins at 1:15 p.m. with Tom Gauthier on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home to face Akron and Erie for a six-game homestand on Tuesday, June 11 at 7:05 p.m. The series includes three Atlas Fireworks shows, a David Ortiz mini-bobblehead giveaway, and a Father's Day matinee with a baseball giveaway and a game of catch on the field with dad.
