Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves offense continued to struggle on Saturday night at Jerry Uht Park as they dropped the middle game of a three-game series to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-2.
New Hampshire struck in the opening inning. With two outs, Kevin Nolan reached base with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After Brad Glenn reached first on a walk, Adam Loewen sent a three-run home run into right-center, giving the Fisher Cats an early 3-0 lead.
New Hampshire added more to their lead in the second inning. After Kevin Pillar reached base, Ryan Schimpf hit a two-run homerun into right, extending the New Hampshire lead to 5-0.
The SeaWolves would answer in the fifth inning. Daniel Fields' leadoff double broke up a perfect game for starter Sean Nolin. James McCann followed with a single into to center that scored Fields. An error on the center fielder Pillar allowed McCann to advance into scoring position. Wade Gaynor's RBI single scored McCann and made it 5-2 Fisher Cats.
The Fisher Cats delivered the final blow in the ninth inning when Brad Glenn sent a solo shot into dead center, giving New Hampshire a 6-2 lead.
Fisher Cats pitcher Nolin (3-1) picked up the win going 6 innings, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, no walks, and a season-best 9 strikeouts. The New Hampshire bullpen combined for three scoreless innings, allowing just three base runners.
SeaWolves pitcher Victor Larez (5-3) got the loss going 5 innings, giving 5 runs on 8 hits, 2 walks, and a strikeout. The Erie bullpen allowed just two hits and one run in four innings of work.
The Howlers will look to end their losing streak tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 pm. Erie will send LHP Kyle Lobstein (5-3, 3.19 ERA) to the mound against RHP Marcus Stroman (1-1, 6.00 ERA).
