Green Bay Blizzard News Release
Green Bay Blizzard President Brian Noble knows a lot about playing football. As a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers for 9 years, then the Head Coach and eventual owner of the Blizzard, he has seen virtually every situation that can arise on the playing field. When he laces 'em up and takes the field on Tuesday, April 18th, he'll be seeing something for the first time: wheelchairs.
Noble will be taking part in the charity Wheelchair Football Bowl Game, which will be held on Tuesday, April 18th at the Schuldes Sports Center. The event is being organized by St. Norbert College junior Luke Getschow as a means of raising funds for the Cerebral Palsy Center in Green Bay and Academic Support Services at St. Norbert.
The event is more than just a fun way to help raise money for CP. For Getschow, it is a way to honor his brother Joseph, who is physically challenged. Luke has contacted numerous organizations and businesses to get involved, and may have stepped up to the plate, including Green Bay Home Medical, who is providing the wheelchairs for the game.
Noble jumped at the chance to get involved in the game. "My whole career I've been around people who have had a great sense of purpose, guys who were always really driven," said Noble. "But when I look at the challenges that some people face, and the way that they face them head-on and don't let anything stand in their way, it's truly inspiring. It's an honor to be asked to participate in an event that will both honor all those brave people and benefit them."
The Wheelchair Football Bowl Game was organized by Getschow and members of the St. Norbert chapter of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, and will feature numerous celebrity participants. Noble will be joined by his former Packers teammate, linebacker George Koonce, as well as WBAY-TV news anchor Bill Jartz, and faculty, staff and students from St. Norbert College. The half-time entertainment will be provided by Comedy City of De Pere, featuring Miller & Mike.
Admission is three dollars per person and there will be refreshments and other items for sale. Anyone physically challenged who is interested in playing can contact Luke Getschow at (920) 217-4053 or by email at luke.getschow@snc.edu.
For more information, contact the Blizzard office at (920) 405-1264.
