Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- About the only thing that Rockford IceHogs fans had to complain about through the first 16 games of the 2004-05 season was the team's shootout performance. On Wednesday night the IceHogs beat the Kansas City Outlaws 4-3 in the shootout in front of 3,037 at the Rockford MetroCentre.

Outlaws goalie Maxime Gingras held Rockford scoreless in the shootout through nine rounds in the teams previous meeting on October 29, but the IceHogs were able to snipe home three straight markers while Jeff Harvey was perfect for Rockford in the shootout to pick up the win.

The IceHogs grabbed the early 1-0 on the power play when winger Jason Ralph punched home a rebound at 6:24 of the first period. Kansas City tied the contest at the 16:05 mark when Mark Lee fired home the equalizer before the intermission. The only goal in the second period was scored by Outlaws defenseman Mike Domkiewicz, shooting home a rebound past Harvey at 8:50.

After the second intermission, Rockford came out flying and scored a pair of goals in a 1:46 span. Winger Chris Gobert tied the score at 4:13, sneaking in a loose puck past Gingras. Center Olivier Proulx proved to be clutch again for Rockford, pulling the Hogs back into the lead at 6:57.

Kansas City would however, tie the contest with another power play goal. After calling a timeout with just 2:00 minutes remaining in regulation, Gingras was pulled for the extra skater and 6-on-4 advantage. Winger Steve Yetman somehow found the loose puck through traffic at 17:55 to tie the game back up.

In the extra session, Rockford received goals from J.F. Dufour, Vince Malts and Ralph, while Harvey stopped Jason Ruff, Mike Lankshear and Joe Seroski. Harvey turned away 15 shots in the win and Gingras was well worked, blocking 36 Rockford attempts.

Next Home Game: Friday, November 26 vs. Missouri River Otters. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The River Otters return to Rockford for the third time this season to battle the Hogs. The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive a free IceHogs Smash Hit Hockey T-shirt, courtesy of the Edgebrook Center, Blackhawk Communications, Swanson's Discount Vacuum, 13WREX and Q98.5 FM.
