June 12, 2015 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Texas Rangers have agreed to terms with the 4th overall pick in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft, RHP Dillon Tate from UC Santa Barbara. He will report to the Spokane Indians for the 2015 season. The terms of Tate's deal haven't yet been disclosed.
The 21-year-old from Claremont, Calif., finished his 2015 college season with a 111 strikeouts and a 2.26 ERA for the Gauchos. He allowed just 5.75 hits per nine innings, which ranked 11th in the nation.
Tate had his best performance as a member of the U.S. collegiate national team's bullpen last summer. He uses a fastball that sits between 92-98 mph, and an 86-87 mph slider to confuse opposing hitters. He also carries a curveball and changeup in his arsenal. Tate started his career at UCSB in the bullpen, but had a successful transition to the starting rotation in 2014.
