Los Angeles Sparks News Release
LOS ANGELES - The WNBA announced today that Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike was named one of two Players of the Month for July along with Washington Mystics forward Elena Delle Donne. Ogwumike averaged 21.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.43 blocks and led the Sparks to a 5-2 record in July. Ogwumike led a team that was missing Candace Parker, Alana Beard, Maria Vadeeva, Riquna Williams and Alexis Jones for a majority of the month. In fact, the team played several games with just eight active players, and Ogwumike helped the team weather the storm. On top of that, the Sparks played five out of the seven games on the road.
On July 7, Ogwumike hit a career-high five 3-pointers to help the Sparks route the Mystics. Ogwumike is currently shooting 41.7% on 3-pointers, good for sixth in the WNBA. For the season, the 2016 MVP is third in rebounds per game, sixth in points per game and fifth in steals per game. Ogwumike and the Sparks are back in action tonight when they take on the Las Vegas Aces at 7 p.m. PT on ESPN2. Below is the graphic and attached is the release from the WNBA.
