NJ/NY Gotham FC News Release

HARRISON, NJ - NJ/NY Gotham FC looks to strengthen its chances to make the postseason, as the club prepares to host the Houston Dash at Red Bull Arena on Hispanic Heritage Night this Sunday, Oct. 1 (6:30 p.m. ET, MSG Networks / Paramount+).

On the heels of Gotham FC's home victory over the Washington Spirit on Sept. 16, Gotham FC ranks third in NWSL standings (30 points) - just three points from the top of the table - and well within striking distance of this week securing a spot in the NWSL Playoffs. Meanwhile, the Dash currently sits outside of the playoff picture in 10th place. However, the Dash still have a fighting chance at only three points shy of the sixth and final spot to the postseason.

Sunday's matchup between Gotham FC and Houston will be the second and final time the two clubs will square off this season. In June, two sides played to a 1-1 draw after Gotham FC forward Lynn Williams buried a penalty in the 53rd minute to even the scoreline and to pick up a point on the road.

POTENTIAL SCENARIOS TO MAKE THE NWLS PLAYOFFS

Gotham FC could punch its ticket to postseason this week based on two scenarios that include a Gotham FC win and a little help from around the league.

In Scenario 1, Gotham FC could clinch with a Gotham FC win over the Houston Dash on Sunday, AND a Washington Spirit loss to the Kansas City Current on Saturday, AND a Racing Louisville tie or loss to the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday.

In Scenario 2, Gotham FC could clinch with a Gotham FC win over the Houston Dash on Sunday AND an Orlando Pride win or tie over Angel City FC on Monday.

THE STARS ARE SHINING

Gotham FC's star players are shining brightly. Newly crowned 2023 FIFA World Cup champion Esther González recorded a brace to secure the victory in her home debut with the club. González became just the sixth player in NWSL history to score a brace in one of her first two league appearances and the second since 2015 (Sophia Smith, 2021).

While on international duty last week, Gotham FC forward Lynn Williams scored two goals in the U.S. Women's National Team's 3-0 victory over South Africa on Sept. 21, and forward Midge Purce replaced Megan Rapinoe against South Africa to earn valuable minutes on Sept. 24.

GOTHAM FC HOSTS HISPANIC HERITAGE NIGHT

As Gotham FC hosts Hispanic Heritage Night, the celebration will include vibrant influences of Hispanic culture from the moment fans arrive at the stadium throughout their entire matchday experience.

From 4-6 p.m., the festivities begin at the Gotham FC Fan Fest presented by CarMax located outside of Gate B. Highlights of Fan Fest include face painting, hair braiding, lawn games, and interactive activities - all set to an authentic soundtrack of music that represents the culture. Mariachi Loco de NY will serenade fans with classic mariachi music, while DJ Jaymie Perez provides a playlist of popular Spanish-language hits from yesterday and today.

The commemoration will feature the national anthem performed by Camile - an Argentina-born, Brooklyn Based, multicultural influencer who fuses Latin Music with R&B, Pop, and Soul in addition to a pre-game performance by singer, songwriter, and actress Nohemy in partnership with Johnnie Walker Blended Scotch Whisky and UnitedMasters.
