Nixon leads Heaves over Rainmen

Vermont Frost Heaves News Release


South Burlington, VT - Joe Nixon rained down three's on the Halifax Rainmen to lead the Frost Heaves to a 122-110 victory in Barre this afternoon. Nixon lead all scorers with 36 points followed by Greg Plummer with 30 points.

The Frost Heaves led after one quarter 33-31 and were up by as much as 9 in the quarter but the Rainmen hung tough. The second quarter saw 9 lead changes as the teams went back and forth in a frenzied pace. The Frost Heaves managed to hold a slim 61-60 lead at the half. The Frost Heaves came out in the second half and outscored Halifax, 31-20 to hold a 92-80 lead at the end of three quarters.

Halifax managed to get as close as five points in the fourth quarter, but Vermont's three point shooting closed the door for the final 122-110 score. Joe (Lucky) Nixon lead all scorers with 36 points on 13-20 shooting and 8-13 from three point range including 6 three pointers in a row. Greg Plummer put up 30 points and was 6-7 from three point land. Jimmy Twyman was the leading scorer for Halifax with 31 points. The Frost Heaves outrebounded the Rainmen 49-36.

The Frost Heaves get right back at it tomorrow afternoon when the Montreal Sasquatch visit Barre for a 2:05 p.m. tipoff. Tomorrow's game is the annual BUMP birthday bash being sponsored by National Life. The annual mascot five on five game at halftime will take place and is always a lot of fun to watch BUMP go up against his fellow mascots. The Northfield Savings Bank Community All Star will be Cass Bresette. He is the founder/organizer of the Freezing Fun for Families Co-Ed Winter Softball Tournament to benefit two local kids with cancer and celebrating its 11th year. Today he will be playing for the Community Comfort Room at CT VT Medical Center.

The Frost Heaves stand at 5-3 overall and are tied for First Place in the Atlantic Division with Manchester. Halifax falls to 5-4 and they travel to Manchester for a rematch with the Millrats tomorrow afternoon.
