The Calgary Vipers' magic number remains at two after giving up three runs in the ninth inning to be defeated 9-8 by the Chico Outlaws at Nettleton Stadium in Chico, California. Leading 4-1 into the bottom of the sixth inning Calgary gave up three runs for a 4-4 tie. Responding the Vipers went ahead 8-4 in the seventh only to have the Outlaws score two in the eighth and three in the ninth for the victory. With the loss the Snakes are 26-15 in the second half and two and a half games ahead of the Victoria Seals for first place in the North Division with four games remaining. Overall Calgary's record is 49-35 on the Golden Baseball League season.
Claudio Galva (2-4) took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits while recording only two outs in the ninth frame.
Calgary now plays the Tijuana Big Horn Sheep in Yuma, Arizona on Friday September 3rd at 8:00 PM MDT, a double-header on Saturday September 4th at 6:30 PM MDT, and Sunday September 5th at 7:00 PM MDT.
