
OC Gets Back to Work Today Against Na Koa

WAILUKU, Hawai'i (September 3, 2010) -- After splitting the first two games of the series, the Orange County Flyers return from an off day to continue a seven-game series against Na Koa Ikaika Maui on Friday at Iron Maehara Stadium. OC will face Maui in the South Division Series with the first two games of the best-of-five set beginning the day after the regular season wraps up. Today Orange County sends Jesse Smith to the mound in his second start of the season against Na Koa. In Smith's last six starts, he has five wins and one no decision, while averaging 7 strike outs and nearly 7.0 innings of work. OC is currently a game ahead of Maui in the GBL South Division second half standings. The all-time series between the Flyers and expansion Na Koa Ikaika is tied, 4-4.
FIFTY NIFTY:With Wednesday's win, OC became only the seventh team in GBL history to record 50 wins in a single season. The Flyers are the only franchise to win 50 games twice. Maui and Chico already reached the 50-win plateau this season, and both Calgary (49) and Edmonton (48) are within striking distance this season.

FROM THE NORTH: The Calgary Vipers magic number to win the North Division second half is down to 2 with four games left in 2010 and a 2.5 game lead over the Victoria Seals. Calgary has four games remaining against the Tijuana Cimarrones in Chico while Victoria finishes the regular season by hosting the Edmonton Capitals.
The Orange County Flyers (50-31, 28-8 second half) begin a best-of-five playoff series against Na Koa Ikaika Maui (52-25, 26-8) in Maui on Tuesday, September 7, and will host Game 3 of the series on Friday, September 10 at 7:05pm at Goodwin Field. OC will host Games 4 and 5, if necessary, on September 11 and 12.
