Victoria Seals News Release

Edmonton, AB - Looking to wrap up their final road trip of the season with a victory, the Victoria Seals returned to Telus Field for game three against the Edmonton Capitals. Making Golden Baseball League history on Thursday night, the Seals sent Andrew Arreola (5-7) to the mound for a start against his younger brother Daryl Arreola (2-2) of the Capitals.

After both Arreola's retired the side in order in the first inning of play, Victoria took an early lead in the top of the second. After Brian Rios led off the frame with a single, Colin Moro cashed in the runner with a base hit of his own. Then, with Matt Edgecombe reaching on a single, Andrew Arreola burned his brother with a triple to straight-away centrefield to put the Seals up 3-0.

Before the inning was out, Wilver Perez drove home Arreola with a fourth straight two-out hit for Victoria en route to a 4-0 advantage. Adding to their total in the top of the third, the Seals stretched the score to 5-0 with the help of a walk to Tim Rodriguez and a clutch two-out double off the bat of Matt Kavanaugh.

Victoria then put the game out of reach in the top half of the fifth, using a hit-by-pitch to Rodriguez and a single from Kavanaugh to set up a two-run single courtesy of Colin Moro. Answering back with two runs of their own, however, the Capitals got on the board when Larry Bigbie drove home both Ryan Stevenson and Enrique Cruz with an RBI double for a 7-2 score.

Giving the home crowd one last reason to cheer in the bottom of the eighth, Capitals slugger Cliff Brumbaugh launched his league-leading 22nd home run of the season over the scoreboard in left to pull the Edmonton within four runs. Victoria turned back to the bullpen in the ninth with P.J. Bevis on to retire the side and complete a 7-3 win for the Seals.

Andrew Arreola out-duelled his brother Daryl on the way to his sixth win of the season, adding a pair of RBI's for the Seals. Colin Moro also notched three RBI's for Victoria, while Cliff Brumbaugh had two hits in a losing effort for the Capitals.

Victoria now returns home to Royal Athletic Park tomorrow night to begin the final homestand of the year. Game one is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (PT) and will be broadcast live at www.victoriaseals.ca. Tickets are available now through by calling (250) 220-7777. Fans can also reserve their seats to see the Seals against the Capitals online by visiting www.victoriaseals.ca!
