ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (July 6, 2003) – The Newark Bears hit three home runs and Elvis Nina tossed six innings of no-hit ball to beat the Atlantic City Surf, 8-3, Sunday evening at the Sandcastle.

Eddie Lara, who had seven RBI in game one of yesterday's doubleheader, cranked a two-run homer in the first inning. DeCinces followed his lead three batters later with a two-run shot of his own, giving the Bears a 4-0 lead they would hold on to.

Michael Coleman gave the Bears more insurance with a three-run home run in the fifth inning.

Newark starter Elvin Nina (1-2) allowed no hits through six innings pitched while striking out seven Surf batters, but was taken out in favor of reliever Andy Hazlett in the top of the seventh.

Hazlett surrendered three straight hits, including an RBI single by Brandon Jackson that plated his brother Brody from third base.

Tim DeCinces paced Newark offensively, going 4-5 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI.

ON DECK: The Surf and Newark will play the last game of the first-half of the 2003 season on Monday, July 7, at 12:35 p.m., for a "Casino Graveyard Shift Special" at the Sandcastle.
