Nikita Alexandrov Selected by St. Louis in 2019 NHL Draft

Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Nikita Alexandrov is calling Gloria.

The Islanders forward was selected in the 2nd round, 62nd overall, by the Stanley Cup champions St. Louis Blues at the 2019 NHL Draft.

"It's exciting. I can't really put it in to words at the moment." said Alexandrov following hearing his name called in Vancouver. "It's crazy to be drafted by the Stanley Cup champions; I'm really looking forward to getting going."

With no picks in the first round stemming from the Ryan O'Reilly trade with the Buffalo Sabres, Alexandrov was St. Louis' first pick in the draft, something he says is a big honour.

"It's really cool. I had a sense that they might select me but obviously with the draft anything can happen. In the end I'm really proud to be heading to a great organization."

Alexandrov put together a career season this season with the Islanders, recording 27 goals and 61 points in 64 games. In his QMJHL career thus far, Alexandrov has 40 goals and 92 points in 130 games.

Alexandrov joins another member of the Islanders organization, former forward Sammy Blais, in the Blues organization. Another QMJHL player, Rimouski Oceanic goaltender Colten Ellis, was also selected by St. Louis in the third round.

"We are thrilled to see Nikita selected by St. Louis." said Islanders head coach and general manager Jim Hulton. "He has been a great player and person for our organization and it's wonderful to see his talent recognized. He is much deserving of this honour."

Alexandrov will join the Blues for their post-draft Prospect Camp taking place June 25-28th in St. Louis. He'll be joined by another former Islander, Mitchell Balmas, who is attending the camp as an invitee.

From the entire Charlottetown Islanders organization, we'd like to congratulate Nikita Alexandrov on becoming the newest prospect of the St. Louis Blues!
