Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
FRISCO - Brett Nicholas went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to help Frisco hand Corpus Christi its sixth loss in seven games, 6-5, in front of 10,562 fans at Dr Pepper Ballpark Friday night.
The Hooks (1-3, 43-31) scored single runs in the second and third innings on RBI hits from Michael Burgess and George Springer, but the RoughRiders (3-1, 42-32) answered in the bottom of each frame. In the bottom of the second, ninth-place hitter Hanser Alberto belted a two-run double and in the third Chih-Hsien Chiang notched a run-scoring single to put Frisco on top 3-2.
The Hooks scored twice in the fourth when Burgess led off with a bunt single and Raoul Torrez bunted him to second. Drew Muren's single scored Burgess and later Rene Garcia plated Muren with a base hit.
Corpus Christi starter Nick Tropeano (2-6) put together a one-two-three frame in the bottom of the fourth, but allowed singles to the first two batters he faced in the fifth. Brett Nicholas then belted his 14th home run of the season to give Frisco a 6-4 lead.
Frisco starter Kevin Pucetas (8-6) allowed four runs on 10 hits in five innings, and gave way to Arlett Mavare to start the sixth. After he struck out Burgess, Mavare allowed a home run to Torrez that left the entire ballpark down the left field line to make it a one-run game.
The RoughRiders bullpen was nearly untouchable for the second straight night, as Alex Claudio and Justin Miller struck out the side in the eighth and ninth innings. Miller nailed down his second save of the season.
The Hooks continue their series with Frisco Saturday at 7:05 PM with the tandem of Jorge De Leon (0-1) and Ruben Alaniz (2-7) squaring off against the RoughRiders' Nick McBride (1-2).
