SPRINGDALE, AR- Matt Fields is a Texas League All-Star. League President Tom Kayser announced Saturday that Tulsa Outfielder Kent Matthes has been promoted by the Colorado Rockies to AAA-Colorado Springs, and Naturals First Baseman Matt Fields will be added to the North Division All-Stars in the 2013 Texas League All-Star Game presented by Castrol in just three days on Tuesday at Arvest Ballpark.
Fields is currently tied with fellow All-Star George Springer for second in the League with 18 homeruns. The 27-year-old from Seattle, Washington is hitting at a .313-clip with 3 homeruns and 7 RBI in his last ten games. Since May 1st, the slugger is batting .270 with 14 homeruns and 35 RBI. In 68 games for Tulsa this year, the 26-year-old hit .270 with 9 homeruns, 32 RBI and 24 doubles.
Originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 44th Round of the 2004 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Green River Community College in Washington State, Fields spent six seasons in the Rays farm system. After his release he played in the Independent Frontier League until the Royals signed him last season and assigned the 6'5" 240-pounder to HiA-Wilmington where he hit .281 and clubbed 17 Homeruns in 67 games for the Blue Rocks. Playing in Double-A for the first time since 2010. Fields is the Naturals regular first baseman and clean-up hitter.
The announcement marks Fields' first professional All-Star Selection.
