San Angelo, TXâThe San Angelo Saints continue volunteer efforts throughout the Concho Valley and are busy planning pre-season events for Saints fans.
Saints Head Coach/Assistant General Manager Ray Edwards will put his reading skills to use at the North Angelo Branch Library's monthly Story Time on Tuesday, August 17 at 4:00 p.m. Halo reunites with local friends at the San Angelo Colts' annual Mascot Night on Wednesday, August 18 at Foster Field. Saints representatives will attend the annual Steak and More Dinner Fundraiser benefiting the Boys and Girls Club on August 19. Drop by Sunset Mall from 1:00-2:00 p.m. as the Saints man the phones for the KIXY Kares Radiothon. All proceeds go to the Children's Miracle Network benefiting kids in our area. The Saints continue work with Meals for the Elderly by delivering meals on Monday, August 23.
Saints fans take noteâthe Saints 2nd Annual Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 25 at 7:00 p.m. The San Angelo Convention Center will host the event in which fans can voice thoughts, concerns and finally get the answers to their questions. Saints President Jim Cook and Head Coach/Assistant GM Ray Edwards, along with Michael McEnrue from the City of San Angelo, will use this opportunity to get feedback on last year's season and let fans know what to expect for the 2004-05 season.
Don't miss the 1st Annual Saints Kid's Day, October 9 at Super Wal-Mart from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Kids can test their hockey skills in the Saints "Hockey Shot" game and participate in activities such as face painting, bowling, a free throw contest, inflatable games and more! The San Angelo Police Department will be on hand with Kid's Print fingerprinting service and Darren the DARE Lion. All proceeds of the event will go to the Children's Miracle Network, Concho Valley Home for Girls, the Pregnancy Help Center and Sonrisas.
The San Angelo Saints currently have 12 players under contract for the 2004-05 season including CHL Goaltender of the Year Scott Reid. He is joined by defensemen Matt Frick, Dan Hodge, Gavin Hodgson, John Jarram, and Matt Mikulic; left wings Roan Blampin, David Silverstone, Curtis Tidball and Trevor Weisgerber; right wing Steve Roberts and center Andy Doktorchik.
Former Saints Derek Booth, Jarrett Metz, Corri Moffat and Brant Nicklin have retired after helping the team win the Southwest Division Title in 2003-04. Konrad Brand was married shortly after the season ended and has since decided to retire, but will call San Angelo home for now. Scott Lega and wife Melanie are considering job offers at home in Salmon Arm, British Columbia and are unsure if he will return to the Saints for the 2004-05 season.
The puck drops October 22 as the Saints host the Laredo Bucks in the first game of the 2004-05 season.
