August 13, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
LUBBOCK, TX â Lubbock Cotton Kings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Chris Dashney announced today the signing of forward Jeremy Kyte.
The 6-1, 205-pound forward split time between the currently-defunct Roanoke Express and the Greenville Grrrowl during the 2003-04 season. In 73 games last season, Kyte had 11 goals and 39 points with 54 penalty minutes.
"I have heard a lot of good things about this city," said Kyte. "I chose Lubbock because it was the best chance for me to play with a stable team financially and also have a chance to win."
The Nepean, Ontario, native played junior hockey with his hometown team, the Nepean Raiders, in the Central Junior Hockey League. In 154 games from 1994-97, he tallied 95 goals and picked up 205 points. He was the leading scorer in the league when he was 18 and was one of the final cuts to the Canadian National Team. Dashney also played in the CJHL.
"It was an obvious tie back to Ottawa," said Kyte. "I didn't know Dashney but I remember hearing his name when I was growing up."
Kyte, 26, attended the University of Massachusetts â Lowell, playing 53 games from 1998-2000 and tallying 26 points (8-18) in those contests. He was on the nationally ranked team in 1999 playing center and was an Academic All-American all three years.
"Jeremy is a talented centerman that adds much needed experience and depth to our hockey club," said Dashney.
Since university, Kyte has played in the ECHL (Baton Rouge, Roanoke, Greenville), the Central Hockey League (Memphis), the ACHL (Macon) and overseas in Norway and France. In 179 games, he has scored 61 goals and added 89 helpers for 150 points.
Kyte will be moving to Lubbock prior to the start of the season with his fiancé, Maria, and four-year old son, Andrew.
