Newly Acquired Mercedes Heading to Mobile

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (July 21) - Prior to tonight's contest between the Mobile BayBears and Chattanooga Lookouts at AT&T Field, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the BayBears have made the following roster moves. RHP Roque Mercedes has been assigned to Double-A Mobile. Just two days after being acquired in a deal from the Milwaukee Brewers that included 2B Felipe Lopez, Mercedes is with the BayBears in Chattanooga and will be available out of the bullpen. In 29 appearances at Single-A Brevard County this season, Mercedes was 1-1 with a stingy 1.08 ERA. He fanned 45 opponents in 41.2 innings while accumulating 6 saves. Just 22 years old, Mercedes was signed out of the Dominican Republic by the Brewers in 2004. To make room for Mercedes on the roster, IF Eli Rumler was reassigned to Single-A Visalia. Rumler appeared in only 8 contests for the BayBears and hit .095 with 4 RBI. The BayBears now have 24 active players with 2 on the disabled list.
