New York Red Bulls News Release
Davenport, Fla. - The New York Red Bulls took a 5-0 victory over the Montreal Impact on Thursday afternoon in three 45-minute periods. Bradley Wright-Phillips scored twice in the opening period, while Vincent Bezecourt, Sacha Kljestan and Brandon Allen added goals across the second two stanzas.
Jesse Marsch used three different lineups across the three periods of play, mixing last year's starters into the first two groups.
Wright-Phillips got his third goal in as many preseason outings in the 31st minute. Connor Lade lofted a ball over the top of the defense for Wright-Phillips, who took a touch to turn himself towards goal and fired a low shot by Montreal 'keeper Evan Bush.
Wright-Phillips got a second minutes later, finishing a feed from Lloyd Sam. The play started with Gonzalo Veron cutting down the left wing and playing a cross over every one. Sam regrouped on the right side and picked out Wright-Phillips for a tap-in finish.
Kyle Reynish played the first 45 minutes in goal for New York and made several solid plays, including a fingertip save to deny a Montreal shot and a sliding stop to take the ball away from the Impact's Dominic Oduro one-on-one.
Cheikh M'baye, a trialist that arrived in camp yesterday, saw action in the second 45-minute period
Another trialist, Vincent Bezecourt, got the Red Bulls back on the scoreboard in the second period, scoring in the 51st minute. Red Bulls midfielder Felipe got the ball and played ahead for Kenny Cooper, who played a ball behind the back line and into the run of Bezecourt, who finished one-on-one.
Sacha Kljestan kept up the pace minutes later, putting home the rebound of a Stefano Bonomo shot that was cleared off the line.
Homegrown signing Brandon Allen added the Red Bulls' fifth goal in the third period with a strike from the top of the box.
The Red Bulls return home tomorrow, February 5, and will have the weekend off before resuming training on Monday, February 8, at the Red Bulls Training Facility in Hanover, N.J.
