New York Red Bulls II News Release
New York Red Bulls II (8-5-4, 30 pts.) fell to NYCFC II (8-7-1, 25 pts.) 3-2 on Sunday, July 9, at MSU Soccer Park.
The visitors struck first in the 47th minute, as midfielder Samuel Owusu sent in a shot immediately following a corner kick from forward John Denis.
NYCFC II doubled their advantage in the 56th minute. After a cross was played into the box, forward Matt Myers capitalized off a feed from midfielder Jack Beer following a scramble in the box.
The visitors added a third goal in the 69th minute, as Jonathan Jiménez struck from the edge of the box after receiving a long pass from Beer.
Red Bulls II scored in the 79th minute as midfielder Ibrahim Kasule sent a pass from the far side of the field to forward Ricardo Gorday. The substitute immediately flicked the ball forward with his right foot and then sent in a shot to the far post with his left foot after getting by a defender.
A minute later, the home side struck again. Midfielder Aiden Jarvis intercepted a pass from NYCFC II and played a ball to defender O'Vonte Mullings, who immediately flicked it forward to Kasule. The midfielder scored off a shot with his right foot.
The goal for Gorday was his fourth of the season, which is tied for second on the team.
Kasule increased his team lead in both goals (seven) and assists (four) in the match.
The midfielder has scored in four-straight matches and has recorded a goal or an assist in eight consecutive matches.
Kasule ranks third among MLS NEXT Pro midfielders in goals and is tied for seventh league-wide.
The Ugandan midfielder became the first Red Bulls II player to score in four consecutive matches since Stefano Bonomo, who achieved the feat during the 2017 season. Kasule, Bonomo, and Brandon Allen are the only three players in club history to score in four-straight matches.
Mullings' assist was his first of the season and sixth of his Red Bulls II career.
New York will travel to face Philadelphia Union II on Sunday, July 16. Kickoff from Subaru Park is scheduled for 6:00 P.M. ET. Coverage will be on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, the New York Red Bulls app and NewYorkRedBulls.com.
