New York Liberty Waive Meighan Simmons

NEW YORK, NY - May 12, 2014 - New York Liberty Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has waived guard Meighan Simmons. The Liberty selected Simmons in the third round of the 2014 WNBA Draft with the 26th overall pick.

Simmons appeared in all three preseason games, averaging 2.7 points and 1.3 rebounds in 31.0 minutes per game. An All-American at the University of Tennessee, she was a finalist for the National Player of the Year Award as a senior. Simmons became the fifth Lady Vol in school history with over 2,000 career points. She posted collegiate career averages of 14.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

New York opens regular season action against Connecticut on Friday, May 16 at 7 p.m. at Mohegan Sun Arena. The Liberty will then make their long awaited return to Madison Square Garden to host the Chicago Sky on Opening Night on Saturday, May 17 at 8 p.m. Prior to the game, the team will host a fan fest outside of The Garden starting at 4 p.m., highlighted by music, prizes, guest appearances, a talent competition for local groups and basketball contests on the Liberty sport court.
