New York Liberty News Release

NEW YORK, NY - March 10, 2013 - The New York Liberty will tip-off its 18th season in franchise history with preseason match-ups against Eastern Conference rivals the Connecticut Sun and Atlanta Dream.

The Liberty will start the 2014 season with back-to-back games against the Connecticut Sun, beginning with a road game at Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday, May 4 at 1 p.m., followed by a home matchup on Thursday, May 8 at 11 a.m. at the completely transformed Madison Square Garden. The game will serve as the Liberty's annual School Day games with each student in attendance receiving an educational workbook. There will also be a special guest speaker that will address the students with an anti-bullying message at halftime. Exhibition play concludes on Sunday, May 11 at 3 p.m. against the Atlanta Dream at Philips Arena.

New York, led by perennial All-Star Cappie Pondexter, enters its second season under head coach and general manager Bill Laimbeer. Laimbeer was a three-time WNBA Champion during his previous stint in the league as head coach of the Detroit Shock (now Tulsa). Liberty All-Star forward Essence Carson is also expected to return. Carson suffered a season-ending torn left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in 2013.

The Liberty will host several exciting theme nights at The Garden throughout the season, including Dad's and Daughter's Day, Inspiring Women Night, Pride Day, Hoops for Troops, Breast Health Awareness and the annual Camp Day game.
