Indiana Fever News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indiana Fever and Washington Mystics will play a pair of preseason games, May 5 and May 7, following the opening of WNBA training camps on April 27.

When the Mystics visit Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Monday, May 5 (12:00 p.m.), the Fever will conduct its annual Choices for Champions pregame educational program promoting health, fitness, education, self-esteem and anti-bullying for middle school students. The Choices for Champions program begins at 9:45 a.m. The program is followed by a lunch break and concourse activities from 11:00 until tipoff.

Students will hear from successful leaders and role models including Fever players. An anti-bullying program will be presented by Camishe Nunley, owner of the Healing Your Hidden Hurts agency dedicated to trauma survivors. Its "Building Resiliency In Children" anti-bullying program will tip off a partnership with the Fever in which players and staff will help deliver the message throughout Central Indiana.

Moderating the event will be Ryan Moran of Moran Success Development. Presentations will include interactive games and skits and a visit by Indiana Pacers mascot Boomer and his Boomer Dunk Show. Schools are encouraged to prepare for the educational program by conducting a "No Name-Calling Week," wear Fever colors and create anti-bullying posters for hallways and classrooms.

A $9 group admission rate for school and student groups, while supplies last, includes a soft drink, chips, hot dog and a ticket to the game. For tickets and further details on this event, visit FeverBasketball.com or call (317) 917-2500.

The Fever continues the preseason schedule on Wednesday, May 7 when it visits the Mystics at Verizon Center (11:30 a.m. ET). Indiana hosts its home and regular season opener on Saturday, May 17 against the Atlanta Dream (7:00 p.m.).

A WNBA playoff participant in nine straight seasons and 10 times since 2002, the Indiana Fever has reached at least the conference finals six times in the past nine years - including WNBA Finals appearances in 2009 and 2012. Just two seasons ago, Indiana capped the 2012 campaign as the champions of women's basketball, beating the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA Finals. The Fever begins its 2014 season at Chicago on Friday, May 16, and hosts a home opener Saturday, May 17 against Atlanta (7:00 p.m.).
