Detroit continued to build upon their lead opening the second quarter with an 8-2 run that was halted by a three-point shot from Loree Moore at the 5:04 mark, 13-31... Despite Moore's continued late quarter shooting spree, she connected on three of New York's final four shots, the Liberty headed into the break down double-digits, 19-35... The Liberty returned to the floor with a renewed focus going nearly shot-for-shot with the Shock recording 15 points in the quarter... New York continued to try and get themselves back in the game, but the Detroit lead was too much to contend with... New York scored 19 points in the final frame to the Shock's 13, but Detroit was able to cruise into the victory at the final buzzer... Detroit was led by Cheryl Ford who scored a game-high 24 points... New York had two players finish in double-figures, Moore (10) and rookie Sherill Baker (10).

New York opened the match-up on a 10-0 run that carried them to an early double-digit lead heading into the second frame, 20-7... Chicago came alive in the second quarter behind aggressive play from Chelsea Newton who connected on two consecutive shots... The Sky continued to battle as they chipped away at the growing New York lead... But, Ashley Battle owned the second quarter running off all 12 of first-half points helping the Liberty to a 40-28 advantage at the break... Chicago proved they would not go down quietly in the second half, continuing to attack the hoop and earning their way to the line... Candice Dupree split both trips to the charity stripe, but brought the Sky to within ten points for the first time since the opening minutes, 42-32... Despite Chicago getting to within four points of New York at the 5:13 mark of the final frame (64-60), New York finished strong recapturing their double-digit lead and taking their second consecutive home win, 80-69... TEAM NOTES
IT'S A WRAP!
After Sunday night's 53-65 loss to the Shock, New York has now closed out its season series with Detroit... Detroit will walk away with a winning record versus the Liberty this season, 2-1... Earlier this season Detroit picked up the first win of the series on June 1, 64-63 ... The two teams met again August 3 with the Liberty evening the series with a 75-67 win at The Garden... The Liberty finished the season 10-5 against the Shock at home and 5-12 on the road ... New York's all-time record against Detroit is 14-18.
TAKING IT FRAME BY FRAME
New York had an unusually slow start in their match-up with Detroit Sunday night scoring only six points in the opening frame... This was an season low in quarter-points production for the Liberty... Prior to Sunday's loss, New York had previously scored a quarter low of eight points on seven occasions, once doing it twice in one game (June 27 vs. Charlotte in the 1st and 2nd quarters)... Despite only notching six points to open the game, New York managed to outscore their opponent in every quarter there after... Unfortunately for the Liberty their early game breakdown put them too far behind to get back on top in the game.
