2006 Sacramento Monarchs Monarchs Clinch 2006 Playoff Berth On August 3 the league office announced that the Monarchs had clinched a 2006 WNBA Playoff Berth. After figuring all of the various scenarios the WNBA office confirmed that Sacramento would once again be heading to the post-season. This will be the seventh time the Monarchs have advanced to the playoffs in eight years (1999-2006).

Team Effort

During the 2006 regular season, the Monarchs are 7-3 (Home 6-2, Road 1-1) when everyone scores.

Home Cookin'

After a victory against the Washington Mystics on August 5, the Monarchs have won eight consecutive games at ARCO Arena. The franchise record for most consecutive home games won is nine.

Monarchs Tie Franchise Records

After a win against the Minnesota Lynx on July 22, the Monarchs tied a franchise record for most consecutive wins with seven (July 6, 2006 - July 22, 2006). In addition, the Monarchs also tied a franchise record for consecutive wins on the road with four (July 6, 2006 - July 22, 2006). The Monarchs fell short of a breaking these franchise records with a loss against Indiana on July 25, 2006.

Eastern Conference

The Monarchs are currently 11-3 versus Eastern Conference teams. The Monarchs best effort against the Eastern Conference came in 1999 with a record of 10-2.

Monarchs guard Ticha Penicheiro and Sparks center Lisa Leslie both played for Spartak in Moscow, Russia during the 2005-2006 off-season.

Sparks forward Chamique Holdsclaw is a 1999 graduate of Tennessee, while four years later Monarchs guard Kara Lawson graduated in 2003.

Monarchs guard Ticha Penicheiro joined Sparks players Lisa Leslie and Mwadi Mabika in the 2002 All-Star Game for the Western Conference.

Monarchs forward Yolanda Griffith and Sparks center Lisa Leslie were teammates on the gold medal-winning USA Basketball teams in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. In addition, Griffith, Leslie, and Sparks forward Chamique Holdsclaw were gold medalists in the 1999 U.S. Olympic Cup.
